Welcome to Walkley Community Choir! And it’s an especially important time for us as it’s our 10 year anniversary! The choir was started in 2013 by the headmistress at St Mary’s C of E Primary School and met in their school hall. It was called ‘St Mary’s Choir’ and mainly consisted of parents and children from the school and parishioners who attended St Mary’s Church. Since then, the choir moved out of the school hall into St Mary’s Church Hall and changed it’s name to ‘Walkley Community Choir’ to enable it to expand and to reach the wider community and embrace a more diverse group of people. The membership has grown from 15 to 75 people and it is a wonderful group to be part of. The wonderful and unique thing about the choir is that it is open to anyone from all ages (primary school age and above), backgrounds and genders, regardless of capability. We all just love singing and want anyone who loves singing to join us! We are led by Andrew Butterfield, a very talented and experienced musical director who makes rehearsals fun and brings out the best in all of us. So please do look around our website and see the sort of things we’ve been involved in and have got scheduled for the future. And you are very welcome to come along to our rehearsals to try us out, 6:30-7:30 in St Mary’s Church Hall during term time or if you want any more information, please do get in touch, either through the website contact page, or our Facebook page.
